Mozilla Firefox Browser Market Share Rising Higher in Europe

April 28, 2008

According to Xiti web metrics company the open source Firefox web browser has climbed to 29 percent of the European market share. The steady increase in popularity marks a huge accomplishment.
Users in Andorra, Finland, Poland and Slovenia are using Firefox on weekends, by choice, exceeding 30 percent market share on average.

Reportedly Internet Explorer has lost two and a half percentage points, while Opera and Safari have seen a 3.3 and 2.3 percent increase, respectively.  The Safari increase may be due to an increase in iPhone browsing, however it is not known whether the statistic includes this usage.

Australia and New Zealand lead in Firefox market share with 31.2 percent, while Asia is at the bottom with just over 17 percent. Firefox is challenged in Asia by the Maxthon browser in China, which uses IE’s engine.

North Americas market share dropped by one point in March. There is no specific indication as to the reason for the trend, though some suspect it may be due to the usage of the Firefox 3 Betas.  It is also suspected that the release of the new Safari 3.1 browser from Apple which was massively pushed out via iTunes.

Regardless, Firefox market share is increasing steadily all over the planet.  Expect Firefox 3, when released late this year, to boost this trend.
